Course Description
Workers often rely on off-road vehicles to access hard-to-reach areas, whether it’s for new construction, routine maintenance, emergency response, or infrastructure installation. However, navigating rough, uneven, and challenging terrains can pose significant safety risks. The Off-Road Vehicle Safety Training course is designed to provide workers with the essential skills and knowledge to operate off-road vehicles safely in various field conditions. This training will cover essential topics such as proper vehicle operation, hazard recognition, and terrain assessment. By the end of the training, participants will have the knowledge and skills needed to confidently operate off-road vehicles while reducing the risk of accidents, improving overall safety, and maintaining efficiency in their work.
Learning Objectives
- Identify and Mitigate Off-Road Hazards: Recognize potential hazards encountered on off-road terrains, such as uneven surfaces, obstacles, and weather-related challenges, and learn strategies to avoid or minimize these risks.
- Master Vehicle Control Techniques: Gain proficiency in controlling off-road vehicles on various terrains, including mud, rocks, and steep slopes, while maintaining stability and preventing accidents.
- Conduct Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Vehicle Inspections: Learn how to properly inspect off-road vehicles before and after use to ensure they are in safe working condition, reducing the likelihood of breakdowns or accidents during operation.
- Implement Safe Navigation and Maneuvering Practices: Understand the best practices for navigating narrow, uneven, or cluttered spaces, using techniques such as proper speed control, weight distribution, and steering to ensure a safe journey.

Compliance and Certification Requirements
This Off-Road Vehicle Safety training course is an awareness course and includes the areas outlined in 29 CFR 1910.178 (Powered Industrial Trucks) and 29 CFR 1926.602 (Material Handling Equipment), as applicable. This course satisfies the regulatory requirement(s).

This course is designed for all personnel who drive personal, company, or specialized vehicles away from maintained roads as a part of their normal work duties
