Overview
This training focuses on minimizing chemical-related hazards, promoting safety, responding to incidents appropriately, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Course Description
Workers often work with or around chemicals that can pose significant risks to their safety, the environment, and the integrity of equipment. This Chemical Safety Training course is designed to equip employees with the essential knowledge and skills to handle hazardous chemicals safely, recognize potential hazards, and respond appropriately in emergency situations. By the end of this training, utility workers will have a solid understanding of chemical hazards, safety protocols, and emergency response procedures, helping to ensure a safer work environment, protecting public health, and preserving the environment.
Learning Objectives
- Identify and Understand Chemical Hazards: Recognize the types of hazardous chemicals commonly encountered in utility work, including their physical, chemical, and health risks, and understand how they can impact workers, equipment, and the environment.
- Understand and Use Safety Data Sheets (SDS): Learn how to read and interpret SDSs to gather vital information about chemical properties, handling procedures, PPE requirements, and emergency response actions.
- Implement Proper Chemical Handling and Storage: Gain the knowledge to safely handle, store, and label chemicals to prevent accidents, spills, and exposure, following industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Effectively: Understand the types of PPE required when working with hazardous chemicals, how to select the right PPE, and how to properly maintain and use it to minimize exposure risks.
- Respond to Chemical Spills and Emergencies: Develop the skills to effectively respond to chemical spills, leaks, or exposures, including containment, clean-up procedures, and the proper reporting and emergency response actions to mitigate harm to workers and the environment.
