Course Description
This Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training course is designed specifically for workers who face a variety of hazards in the field, from electrical risks to exposure to hazardous materials. In this course, workers will learn the importance of wearing the proper PPE to minimize risks and protect themselves from injury while performing their duties in dynamic and often hazardous environments. By the end of the course, workers will understand the critical role PPE plays in ensuring their safety, and how to inspect, maintain, and properly wear protective gear to prevent workplace injuries. This training empowers personnel to protect themselves, their coworkers, and the public, reducing the risks associated with everyday tasks and emergencies in the field.
Learning Objectives
Identify PPE Requirements: Understand and identify the specific PPE needed for various utility work tasks, such as electrical work, excavation, and working in hazardous environments.
Proper Selection and Use of PPE: Learn how to correctly select, wear, and use different types of PPE, including gloves, helmets, eye and face protection, hearing protection, and fall protection gear, to ensure maximum safety on the job.
Inspect and Maintain PPE: Develop the skills to inspect PPE for damage or wear, and understand how to properly maintain and store PPE to ensure its effectiveness and longevity.
Understand PPE Limitations: Gain knowledge about the limitations and proper usage of various PPE, ensuring workers know when and how to use the right protective equipment based on specific hazards encountered in utility work.
Emergency Response and PPE Protocols: Learn the correct emergency response procedures when PPE fails or becomes compromised, including the proper actions to take in the event of a PPE-related malfunction or injury.
Compliance and Certification Requirements
This PPE Training course is an awareness course and includes the areas outlined in 29 CFR 1910.132 (General Requirements for PPE), 29 CFR 1910.133 – 138 (Specific PPE Requirements), 29 CFR 1910.269 (Electric Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution), and 29 CFR 1910.147 (Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout)), as applicable. This course satisfies the regulatory requirement(s).
