This training course is designed for workers who rely on hand and power tools to perform critical tasks as part of their job duties. In this course, participants will learn essential safety practices for using a wide variety of tools, from basic hand tools, like wrenches and screwdrivers, to advanced power tools, such as drills, saws, and grinders. The focus will be on preventing injuries, ensuring proper tool maintenance, and using each tool effectively to complete tasks safely and efficiently. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely use hand and power tools, reduce accidents, and improve the overall efficiency of their work.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and Select the Right Tools: Learn to properly select and identify the appropriate hand and power tools for various utility tasks, ensuring efficiency and safety in every operation.
  • Understand Tool Safety Protocols: Gain knowledge of safety procedures for operating hand and power tools, including how to safely handle, transport, and store tools to minimize the risk of accidents.
  • Inspect and Maintain Tools: Develop the skills to inspect tools for damage, wear, or malfunction, and perform basic maintenance to ensure tools remain in good working condition and safe to use.
  • Use PPE with Hand and Power Tools: Understand the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) for each type of hand and power tool and how to properly wear and use it to protect against injuries.

This Hand and Power Tools Training course is an awareness course and includes the areas outlined in 29 CFR 1910.242 (General Industry Hand and Power Tools), 29 CFR 1910.243 (Guarding of Portable Power-Operated Tools), 29 CFR 1910.244 (Other Portable Tools and Equipment), 29 CFR 1910.243(b) (Grinders, Polishing Machines, and Buffing Wheels), 29 CFR 1910.242(a) (Hand Tools), and 29 CFR 1910.242(b) (Pneumatic Tools), as applicable. This course satisfies the regulatory requirement(s).
