This course teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to avoid lead-related health risks due to exposure hazards in their environment.

Course Description

Workers often encounter environments where lead exposure risks are present, such as during pipe repairs, maintenance, and projects that involve older infrastructure or lead-based materials. Prolonged exposure to lead can result in serious health issues, including neurological damage, kidney problems, and reproductive harm. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their colleagues from lead-related health risks, ensuring a safer and healthier workplace.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify Lead Hazards: Learn how to recognize common lead-containing materials and environments where lead exposure risks exist, such as older buildings, construction sites, and certain manufacturing processes.
  • Understand the Health Effects of Lead Exposure: Identify the harmful effects of lead exposure, including acute and long-term health risks such as lead poisoning, neurological damage, and reproductive issues.
  • Implement Protective Measures: Understand the best practices for reducing lead exposure, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper ventilation, and hygiene protocols such as handwashing and decontamination.
  • Comply with Lead Safety Regulations: Gain industry knowledge regarding key regulations and guidelines related to lead safety, including OSHA standards and EPA recommendations, and how to follow them to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Respond to Lead Exposure Incidents: Develop the skills on how to respond effectively in the event of lead exposure or contamination, including proper reporting, cleanup procedures, and seeking medical attention.

    This Lead Awareness Safety course is an awareness course and includes the areas outlined in 29 CFR 1910.1025 (Lead), 29 CFR 1910.1000 (Air Contaminants), 29 CFR 1910.1200 (Hazard Communication Standard), 29 CFR 1910.132 (Personal Protective Equipment), and 29 CFR 1910.134 (Respiratory Protection), as applicable. This course satisfies the regulatory requirement(s).
